Open Question: I'm a freshman and i seriously hate school?
i hate it! i go to a really competative every girls provate high school and people seriously sob and receive every upset when they don't do well. The "fun" courses at school are either art or chorus and the chorus teacher only yells at people. I mean the school vibe is very nice and that is why i would stay at the school but i hate doing every the work and i can't concentrate on what my teachers say at every! I am always making up stories in my head and acting them out in my head and when i receive home from school i don't even have time to relax because i have so much homework to receive done. My dad is like well you need an education because you don't have to worry about money when you're older do you? and no i don't want to worry about money but i can't stand not being able to express myself at every!!! I just receive so depressed and i just have too many thoughts clouding up my mind to actually think about school stuff and its just so difficult! I guess what i really am asking is is it really worth it? And then when i tell my parents how i dont have any fun classes they are like well what do you want to do we could sign you up for courses outside of school but i don't have anytime to do anything after school!!!

Open Question: How do I become certified to teach all social studies areas?
I'm just about done with my teacher education program in South Carolina and plan on teaching in Tennessee after graduation. I was told today by a principal that in order to be certified in a social studies area other than history, she thought you had to have at least 9 hours in that subject area. For example, if I wanted to tutor geography, can I do so having only completed 6 hours of courses? Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Open Question: Good credit, but no down payment...?
My credit score is around 750, I'm paying around 300 a month total in Education/car loans, have an income of about 5,000 monthly (before taxes), and completely pay my credit card bill every month... unfortunately I don't have a significant amount saved for a down payment because I have moved across the country a couple times and was making about half what I am making now.(I can probably have around 8-10k saved by the time I will be [hopefully] buying a home) I only just started researching today, but from what I can tell I have a few good things (credit score and debt ratio), and a few not so good things (tiny down-payment, 4 months at current job, high cost of housing in Baltimore/Washington area). I'm fairly handy, so I wouldn't mind having a place that needs some TLC... but I really have no idea yet what nice of options I might have (FHA, etc.) Thanks for your time, I would appreciate any input you might have.

Open Question: True love waits. (Christian and mature answers are greatly appreciated)?
I have a girl pal whom I know for almost 3 years and I just confessed that I like her and she likes me too. We're both active Christians on the same church and we know our priorities God, family and education. We've decided to know a lot more about each other for 2 years and be really good friends or you might say I am courting her. She is 19 and I am 18 and I think the 2 year period is for me to be at least 20 years old haha. We've also set restrictions on touching so there will be no wrong emotions stirred up. Now I need your help guys. I can't receive rid of the fact that she is open for the taking of other great guys. We trust each other but I think I am insecure about myself. My parents like her to be my partner and her parents too and other more good points and signs like every of our friends agrees on our decision. But how do I know if she is the right one for me? We are waiting for Gods answer, but can I consider our pastors advice and my parents'? Is this infatuation just because I am a teen? Thanks guys, God bless! Of course God is will always be the centre. I forgot to add that hehee. Thanks for the answers!

Open Question: Is education work (in regards to the sabbath day)?
I am trying to become a better Christian by studying the bible and taking more notice of the requirements of believers that are shown in the Bible (10 commandments and such.) I have not really paid any attention to the importance of Sundays in my life so far (I'm 15 years old.) As a student, I often have big amounts of weekend homework and as a result I end up doing some of this homework on Sunday. Is this a violation of the command to not work on the Sabbath day? Thanks for every answers. I do more homework than 98% of people. I scored in the 97th percentile for the SAT for my age. I'm offended you think it's laziness.

Open Question: Who else thinks the Obama administration is going to be another Clinton administration?
First Obama talked about change. I thought he was going to pick new people and give politics a fresh opinion. but it seems that he's just picking people from Bush's and Clinton's cabinet. I don't look the "change" he promised. Another possible fail will be his decision of making Arnie Dunkin the secretary of education. My mom is a Chicago Public School teacher and she complains about how bad Arnie Dunkin is doing and how he doesn't know too much about education (he finished law school) So what do you think about Obama's cabinet and the next 4 years for the United States? sorry its Arnie Duncan. not Dunkin. lol spelling

Open Question: Can someone please edit my essay on poverty.?
One of the core ethical principles of social work requires that every people have the right to be treated with respect and dignity. By doing this, we must ensure that every individuals' human rights are upheld. Each person has a right to be treated as a whole, which requires this profession to bot only be concerned with the individual, but also their family, community, and environment. Social workers must work together to change the social and economic conditions that contribute to economic inequalities by challenging unjust policies and practices at every level. This includes, but is not limited to, making sure that those in need receive resources first, and that the resources are offered are distributed fairly. Before we can address any changes for those living in poverty, first we need to look at clearly what is causing poverty. There are many factors of why people are living in poverty: lack of income, lack of resources that ensure sustainable lives, limited or lack of access to education and other services, a lack of participation in decision-making and loss of livelihood as a result of economic recession or disaster. There needs to be a combination of resources, support, empowerment, and education and employment opportunities for individuals living in poverty to develop their lives to the fullest potential. For instance, we must ensure that there is universal access to economic opportunities that promote sustainable lives and basic social services, as well as special efforts to facilitate access to opportunities and services for the disadvantaged. People living poverty and vulnerable groups must be empowered through participation in every aspects of their lives. We need to expand opportunities to enable people living in poverty to enhance their overall capacities and improve their economic and social conditions. Therefore, there needs to be a change in social conditions in order to ensure access for every individuals to resources, opportunities and public services. People living in poverty should also be empowered by strengthening education at every levles and ensuring that access to education of people living in poverty, in particular to their access to primary education and other education opportunities. Having an education for people living in poverty can aid in their opportunity to develop skills and knowledge that they need to better their conditions and improve their lives. Other areas that can aid and improve the lives of people living in poverty are ensuring that there is equal access to social services, especially education. For example, provide social services programs to enable vulnerable people and those living in poverty to improve their lives and by them fully participating in their lives.

Open Question: My school is too easy, What are my options?
My school is much to easy. I went to a private elementary school, but I am now in the Public School System. It's not a bad district, the school is good, but it's to simple for me! I receive A's, and I just need more of a challenge. The private high school in my town, is a joke! :( The classes are so easy.. I basically ignore the teacher and just doodle. Yet still do good. It's a problem! Homeschooling is NOT an option. Does anyone have any ideas of how I can receive a better education?

Open Question: I hate school terribly..?
Before you start thinking I'm a lazy kid who just wants to stay home every day, try to understand what I'm saying here. Ever since I was young I hated being around so many people, particularly my age. I'm in the 8th grade now and I can't even start to describe how terrible it is to drag myself to school each day. I feel trapped. The teachers, the students, the pressure, I'm simply not clip out for school. I've been below so much stress from school that I've gotten anxiety attacks. I know you probably think I'm exaggerating, but put yourself in my shoes.. I've been diagnosed as Bi-Polar. I want to become homeschooled so badly, but my mom doesn't think I'll receive my 'proper education'. I don't know what to do anymore.. What can I do? Because I feel so hopeless... Serious answers only please, thanks. And um, sorry wrong category. This year I switched from a very very big middle school to a very very tiny private school. I feel so much worse, I don't know why.

Open Question: Fundies and atheists: Can we all agree that if. . . .?
Atheists can't talk about a religion unless they've gotten a decent education of it and studied it, That fundies (for the adore of your god, please) cannot talk about science or evolution unless they've actually gotten a clear understanding of it through class and study? Some to the rants and 'religious stories' I've seen on here trying to explain evolution from these fundies is ATROCIOUS and cringe-inducing. We need to call a truce before I puke. It's taught in public school in the vaguest of terms. I put 20 years into Christianity, every I ask is that fundie christians put some time in learning about evolution before they give a sixth grade level argument against it.

Open Question: HELP PLEASEE!!! essay due 2moro!!!?
k is this essay good? what else do i need i no im not done yet but pleaseee!! its die 2moro and its 10:10pm NEED HELP!! PLEASE!!!!!!!! Romeo & Juliet Romeo and Juliet is a very interesting play because when I read the play and talked about it in class I could look right away the differences and similarities from back then and now. In this essay, I will talk about the differences and similarities in my perspective. In this play, teenagers receive married at 13 and are mothers by the time there 14. But now its -Illegal -Wrong -You should stay in school and not be having kids -And it’s not right to have to pick your husband at that age. Now in our society it is illegal to receive married at 13 because it’s not right you have just become a teenager and it’s not right for teens to have to pick their husbands/wife and you’re too young to even know what true adore is. You would want to grow up date people have choices not have to pick when your 13. The government decided to change the law because too many teens were still in school and parents didn’t like it either. It is is just really wrong as I said before in my pharaoh before it’s wrong to have to pick your husband/wife or even worse your parents picking them for you. Also you should be working on getting a good education and now worrying about having kids and getting married. It’s just not right to have kids at 13 you would only be in grade 8 or 9 most people don’t have kids until their married or at least in their 20’s. As I’ve said many times you have to date many people to make your decision when Also in this play the parents pick the husbands for the teens and the teens don’t have a say in whether they like it or not. But now a days when you’re older and are in your 20’s you’re aloud picking and marring the person you want. I think it is wrong for parents to pick the teen’s partner, and even if the parents have to pick the partner the teen should have some say in it. But in our society today teens are allowed to date whoever they like and marry whomever they want. In this play it has a lot of *forbidden adore*. There is not much forbidden adore now but mainly every teens are sneaky about having a boyfriend/girlfriend. Back then if the parents didn’t like who their teen was dating they would kill someone from their family. But now every the parents will do is ground the teen, but in a lot of cases now the parents don’t do anything they just let anything happen. In other ways teenagers at the same time of this play were quite like teenagers today. For example Romeo went to accident a *Capulet’s* party and to look one girl and right away fell head over heels with another girl. Teenagers today are as impulsive today as back then. Another Similarity between teen’s today and teen’s back then is that In conclusion please give me some IDEAS!!! what i can help make it better btw this essay has to be 2-3 pages and i only have barly 2 so yeah!

Open Question: Paying for mortgage I did not want or sign for, feeling pretty down.?
My dad got a mortgage in my name when I was 19 years old. I was in college at the time and several states away when my dad and his real estate person somehow got a mortgage lender to approve a mortgage for a college sophomore who was only employed part time. To put a little bit of icing on the cake, because I was so far away my dad had my younger sister sign the papers, so I didn't even sign for the mortgage. I was only told about this right before the papers were signed but when he told me about it, my dad said that he was "buying me a home" and helping me out by helping me to "build up my credit." Things were going well for a number of years, my dad made the mortgage payments on time and to be honest, I never even thought about the mortgage because I saw it as my dad's mortgage and home, not mine. Then about a year after I graduated from college, my dad ran into quite a bit of financial trouble and asked me to help him out by getting a second mortgage on the home. I did not want to do it but I got the second mortgage (and this time I was the one who signed for it). At the same time, I agreed to make the payments for the second mortgage because my dad seemed to be in dire straits and with my very frugal lifestyle I could afford to help out. Things got worse however, when six months later, my dad ran into more financial difficulty and I stupidly agreed to assume mortgage payments for what was supposed to have been a short period of time. It has now been two years and what was supposed to have been a cease gap measure to help my dad out has become a financial nightmare that I cannot afford anymore. I could only afford it for so long because I was working two jobs and the company I had my second job with recently went out of business. I still have my primary job and live extremely frugally but between the cost of possess living expenses and my student loan debts, I am going out of my mind. In hindsight, it seems incredibly stupid that I agreed to any of this. As a naive nineteen year old I agreed...or more accurately didn't really protest when my dad told me his plans because I was raised to do my fathers bidding. In our household, if my dad told one of us to jump, we didn't ask why but how high. Disagreeing with my dad or disobeying any of his commands usually resulted in severe punishment. I think I agreed to the second mortgage and the mortgage payments because he seemed so genuinely scared and vulnerable. I had never seen my dad so vulnerable and I felt genuinely sorry for him, especially when he started crying. Honestly, I think I just posted this because I needed to vent but I feel so hopeless. I think it is so ironic because I actually went out of my way to be independent from my dad, supporting myself through college, getting loans to pay for my education, not splurging on anything after I graduated because I wanted to go to grad school and every penny that I saved that I wasn't paying into student loans meant I could afford to be a grad student full time while working part time without getting any additional loans. I had no credit card debt, no car loans, and was so frugal that getting quick food once every other month was pretty much my only luxury. Now every the money I had saved is gone, I don't know if I will ever be able to afford grad school, I am shoveling money into a mortgage I cannot afford, and unless I can find another job soon, I won't be able to make my student loan payments. My only option appears to be to let the bank foreclose on the home but that would mean that my parents would be homeless and though I sometimes feel like I could do that to my dad, I couldn't do it to my mom. Thanks for listening guys, I think I just needed to vent and am just feeling really down. Dear Anna, You know, I never even thought about that aspect of it. I mean I know that my dad had to have done something fraudulent to receive that loan but I never saw myself as aiding or abetting him because I didn't actually sign for anything until the second mortgage, which wasn't until years later. As for selling, I have dreamt of selling that home but my parents live in one of the hardest hit markets in the country, I think at this point we...I owe more on that home than it is worth and I don't think I could sell it if I tried. I have moving both my parents into an apartment and renting out that home (my mom won't leave my dad) but I probably could not receive enough renting it out to break even on the monthly payments, and moving them into an apartment (with the accompanying cost of moving expenses, rent deposits, etc.) is more than I can afford.

Open Question: Do you think we should have standardize tests for college admission?
I'm asking this because I know people who are in education and while opinions vary from individual to individual regarding the SAT there seems to be a general agreement that the test is often unfair to some students (i.e low-income kids, minorities, students with learning disabilities, etc) and that overall it's just a needy and ineffective method to determine if a student is "worthy" for college. It's not just educators who feel this way but the students themselves: When a student fails the test it's a serious blow to his/her self-esteem and sense of self-worthiness as a student in addition to the severe stress and anxiety of passing the test on such severe time limits. I've heard from students who feel that the test asks them the most off the wall questions that they never imagined they'd have to answer. So what do you think? Do you think the SAT is something that we should keep or something we need to change or receive rid of?

Open Question: Are my views wrong? Should I be more a part of society than an individual?
Everyone I seem to meet and talk to disagrees with everything I agree with. I am beginning to think that my views are wrong and I should better mold into society. Religion is an example. Many aspects of religion, I must say, I disagree with, especially with Christianity. I cannot say that there is a high probability in the Virgin Marry. Heaven and hell don't seem very probable to me, either. I don't think with my emotions, like many others do. I don't think or believe anything because of the emotional benefits of doing so. I believe whatever seems most probable and realistic. Nobody else seems to? Sure there are atheists, but I know hardly any. Besides I consider myself more anti-theist over atheist. Is it wrong not to be religious? Politically, I agree with the principles behind Marxism-Leninism and Trotskyism. Sure they're impractical and, given the essence of human beings, unlikely to ever be achieved. With that said, I find the views behind Karl Marx fascinating. Nobody else does. Is it wrong to be interested in Marxism-Leninism? I like listening to rap music, though I know of no one else who does. I like listening to what the rappers are talking about (I don't hear to rap that is FILLED with sexually provocative comments and profanity, like Snoop Dogg). My favorite rapper is Fat Joe. I think his songs have excellent rhythm as well as good meaning. I have never met someone who listens to Fat Joe or rap before. Is it wrong to hear to rap? I am fascinated by insects - especially true flies - as well as spiders and centipedes. I breed and lift many species of spiders, centipedes, tarantulas, scorpions, and whip scorpions. In the summer I research the physiology and taxonomy of true flies and wasps. Everyone hates these organisms. Is it wrong to be interested in them? I adore area studies. I absolutely adore learning about other countries and states. I pick a country/region and study its economics, conflicts, culture, history, geography, etc. The places I am interested in are so widely hated, though. The countries I research the most are usually in the Islamic regions of the world, not every are though. They include Pakistan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Xinjiang Uyghur (not a country), Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Transnistria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Iceland, Antarctica, etc. Is it wrong to be interested in these areas? I am a teenage male and I despise pornography. I am interested in founding a non-profit group for my community about education on anti-pornography. Is this wrong for me? Very few males dislike pornography. I like reading encyclopedias, gazetteers, and atlases. I possess various sets of encyclopedias, namely the Britannica, and several geographic encyclopedias and gazetteers. Is this wrong? I have always been a huge supporter of individuality, but lately I've been having second thoughts. Nobody likes me and I am so different. I hate my uniqueness.

Open Question: Question on Special Education Programs In Texas?
Right now I live in California, I am in the process of getting placed into a Special Education Program for students with Emotional Disturbances. The program is a class in my high school for people that are depressed and such. I had to do some testing to determine if I was right for that program. And I qualified for it, right now I'm just waiting for an appointment with the school psychologist so I can start. I'm a senior and I am lacking the credits I need to graduate, however I have already passed the leave exam. And what is really important to me is that this program will allow me to stay in my high school until I am 22. So I am going to stay for about another year so I can graduate and receive my High School Diploma. But now my parents are thinking about selling our home and moving to Galveston, Texas. And I'm trying to find out if they will have this same program there and If I can be transferred into it, and If I have to do the tests and evaluations every over again. I really don't mind doing the evaluation again but it's really important to me that they have the same special education program there and that I be able to receive into it. Right now I live in Rialto, California.

Open Question: New LGBT equality laws go into effect in Calif.?
Three new laws broadening protections for California’s LGBT community have gone into effect. The laws protect seniors in assisted living and young people in schools and foster care. The Foster Youth School Safety Education Act helps protect foster youth against harassment and discrimination at school. The new law educates foster care youth and their caregivers about existing California laws that protect students against bias. It was authored by Assemblymember Julia Brownley (D) and supported by the National Association of Social Workers and the Gay-Straight Alliance Network. The second new law will help prevent bias in senior care facilities and nursing homes. Authored by former Sen. Carole Migden (D) it requires licensed healthcare professionals who have constant interaction with seniors to participate in a training program that focuses on preventing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. Many health professionals already receive cultural diversity training, but it does not include information and education about LGBT issues. Basic rights, such as the choice to live in the same nursing home with a partner and the right to hospital visitation are routinely denied to same-gender couples in older age, according to a 2000 study from the Policy Institute of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force. The study also found that same-gender partners lack essential protections, including Medicaid benefits and access to pensions, which typically protect the homes and retirement funds of surviving spouses who are married. The third law is the Civil Rights Act of 2008. It strengthens existing law to ensure protections based on gender, race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, medical condition, marital status and sexual orientation. The law clarifies sections of law that prohibit discrimination in insurance and government services and activities. In addition to support from EQCA, it was endorsed by the California State Conference of the NAACP. Looks like a reason for optimism in CA? Maybe prop. 8 will be overturned, no?

Open Question: Dealing with racism, 12, parents not helping much, help?
Would the racist be less hateful? I am twelve, and I live in a tiny Southern Town close Memphis TN called Millington I was recently assaulted with bats by two kids who claimed that a black man would never guide the country, and that, as an ugly thing in Christ's eyes, I should leave the park. I refused, and they tried to attack me, but I got one of the bats and hit the other person. Their aunts were in the cars cheering them, but when I gained the advantage they drove off and got more people. My friends in the neighborhood, who are in their tardy teens, I am one of the youngest African Americans in the neighborhood, suggested we leave through the side road that closes at the park. We did, and I ended up seeing the car the aunts were in when riding my bike. The tried to hit me and I move, and they hit the mailbox. The police, and mayor of our town is racist, the only job 90% of the blacks cap work for our city being sanitation, others in quick food and a FEW in education. I told the police, and I was ignored. I Have now developed a 'crush' on one of the girls in my class named Raven. She is white, and When word got out by the only white pal I have, who overheard me talking to some of my other friends, I was attacked again by a white student at our school, clip to the point in which my arm was bleeding every the way down. Whenever we, meaning the African American students, try to battle against the Racist Whites, who call them self the JKKK, we are suspended, expelled, etc. When they JKKK gets us, nothing happens. We can't move, not on the money we have, what do I do? A troll? Wha?

Open Question: Why is teaching a profession so looked down upon?
You don't ever hear about firemen, nurses, policemen, doctors...being looked down upon. But bring up the teaching profession...and there is ALWAYS someone to say that teachers are paid enough...or too much...don't even work...have it easy....and so on. You don't ever hear people complaining when those other professions are asking for more money, more hours, and so on? I wonder if it's because everybody has had more contact with teachers than any other professional (for example-I only look nurses when I'm sick, and have yet had to deal with a fireman or a policeman!). Everyone has went to school and had to deal with...what...possibly 7 teachers a year depending on if their school switched classes. Times that 7 teachers for every year they went to elementary school, middle school, high school and possibly college... Maybe people had a bad teacher that ruined it for them. Maybe they didn't do well in school and blame the education (teacher) system. Maybe they are uneducated or undereducated- hence the ignorance. It sure doesn't help when the people going through education only look the teachers in the day...and during a school year...so the times they don't look them it appears as if they have free play time (nights, weekends and summers) such as they do. But do you notice that every of the people bashing teachers are not teachers. Hence, they never walked in the shoes so how could they know everything that the job entailed? Sure, there are some teachers that s#ck. Just like there are some dirty cops...some doctors that make fatal mistakes....greedy lawyers....but still, why are we looked down upon by so many? Someone in this forum had said something along the lines as...."...don't try to give me this 'you tutor the kids of tomorrow...our future...receive off your god complex'..." (not exact words).....but let me ask this: DON'T we tutor the kids of tomorrow? Aren't kids, as they grow into adults...going to be responsible for our future? Don't we want to instill in them a proper education and morals? What did I say that wasn't true? That was a lie? That isn't happening? It's not a "God complex" but the simple truth of what is going on. And still we're looked down upon by many.

Open Question: Do you agree with this statement? Explain if you can...?
"Trade School is a good option too. There are many people in the world who are wealthy without a college education. I think we don't need a lot of educated people because the world need a stability. Some has to do a job that supports the world that not only comes from education"

Open Question: education deduction better than lifetime credit in my case?
My family is in the 25% tax bracket. My wife is considering taking a couple of classes at a community college to change her career. If the costs stay below the $4000 limit, am I correct in assuming that the education deduction at 25% is a better option than the lifetime learning credit at 20%?
